GRADE 6 SUPPLY LIST

Dear Sixth Grade Student:

            We hope you have a fun-filled and restful summer vacation. It was good to get a chance to meet you on "Step Up"day. We look forward to seeing you on the first day of school and anticipate sharing an excellent year.

            We will let you know your specific schedule on the first day of school. As sixth graders, you will also participate in special events throughout the school year.

            If you would like to pick up some materials with which to start off the year we would suggest getting the following:

  • One 1 ½ half inch three-ring binder with pockets on the inside covers and

5 plastic subject dividers with pockets and tabs (reading)

  • One red, plastic pocket folder with three holes (for homework)  and one blue, plastic pocket folder with three holes (for math)
  • Three pocket folders with 3 hole fasteners  (math, science, & SS)
  • Loose-leaf white lined paper (three holes) for note-taking (reading)
  • A three holed pencil case
  • Blue, red pens; highlighter; pencils with cap erasers; colored pencils; crayons; markers for projects; 4 pack of dry erase markers; 1 package of Post It or Avery 2 inch angled durable sticky tabs
  • Erasers, scissors, a glue stick; a Metric/ U.S. ruler, hand-held pencil sharpener
  • Two large book covers- not the sticky kind or two large paper grocery bags
  • Two packs of 3 x 3 post-it notes (to begin the year with but they will be needed all year)
  • Two marble notebooks (for reading and reflections)
  • Three 3-subject, college ruled spiral bound notebooks with pockets (for math, science and social studies)
  • One thumb flash drive

            In sixth grade, organizational and study skills are even more important than ever. In addition, we expect excellent behavior from the “leaders” of the Donaghue School. Our goal is to prepare you well for middle school. What’s your goal?

Math Resources

The Khan Academy is a library of short instructional videos provided free that teach math and other content. The author, a graduate educator at MIT originally developed these as a way to provide tutoring to a cousin. The math topics range from simple to very complex. For review or a fresh look at a topic covered in class, visit the Academy at http://www.khanacademy.org/
